"Nuisance or Necessity? Historical Perspectives on the ‘Informed’ Patient" with Distinguised Professor Nancy Tomes, State University of New York, Stony Brook.

To what extent should patients be actively engaged and involved in medical decision making? Drawing from her award-winning book, Tomes will put current debates into historical perspective, and reflect on the prospects for digital forms of patient engagement. Read more and register before 24 May
 
Child Family Health International
 
Child Family Health International (CFHI) offers some 30 programmes in 10 countries, which connect students with local health professionals and community leaders transforming perspectives about self, global health, and healing.

Currently, there is a possiblity of applying for a scholarship worth €1500
toward a CFHI 4-week programme. The successful candidate will be currently enrolled in a university programme or have graduated no more than 12 months before time of application and be a European citizen or resident.

Global Swede Award 2017
 
Adina Khamitova, Master’s student in Public Health Sciences at Karolinska Institutet, has been honoured with the accolade Global Swede, which is awarded by the Swedish Government and the Swedish Institute to international students in Sweden for outstanding achievements in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Adina Khamitova has combined her studies with the establishment of a Swedish-Kazakhstani partnership to give people in her home region access to clean water using a Swedish innovation. Read more about the Global Swede Award

Follow the iGEM Stockholm 2017 team as we re-engineer bacteria!

For the third year in a row, a multidisciplinary team recruited from different universities in Stockholm will compete in the renowned synthetic biology competition – iGEM – held at MIT (Boston) in November.

Join East Sweden Hack in September 2017

8-10 September 2017 you are invited to Linköping, to take part in creating new IoT-Solutions within Human Interaction & Integration, Healthcare & Medical Care, Energy & Sustainability, and Civil Environment & Transportation.

East Sweden Hack is a hackathon, a 24-hour competition during where people with different competences create new products and services during a limited amount of time. Creators, innovators and programmers meet up and create a place for innovation, creativity and development.

Are You a Future PhD-Student?
 
NorDoc - Nordic Doctoral Training in Health Sciences, is the Nordic Network of Doctoral Education. They have career opportunities for PhD students and future PhD students in Health Sciences.

The Nordic PhD Summit “Health Sciences Across Borders”, held at Aula Medica in August, brings PhD students from the Nordics together for two days of interaction and scientific discussions – focusing on Nordic research strengths and how to get the most out of your PhD. The meeting is open to all interested.

Research Subjects Wanted
 
Would you like to participate in clinical research studies as a research subject or trial subject? Research groups at KI are looking for participants for health science investigations in which research subjects play a very important role.

By participating you will be helping to make progress in research, which can lead to new or more effective treatments in the healthcare system.

Swedish Summer Celebrations
 
In June there are two important dates to remember if you are still in Sweden.

6 June: The National Day of Sweden, when two historical events are honoured: On 6 June
1523, Gustav Vasa was elected king, and on the same date in 1809, the country adopted a
new constitution. If you want a peek of His and Her Majesty the King and Queen, they will join a procession to Skansen in the evening.

23 June: Midsummer's Eve. If you have the possibility of staying, make sure to make the
most out of a very popular day. You can also have a look at the "Swedish midsummer for
dummies" to get an understanding of the event (facts and film from sweden.se).
